Howard Ashkin, MMH, PsA

Howard earned his Masters’ in Mental Health (MMH) from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry in 1981, following his 1977 undergraduate degree in Psychology from the State University of New York at Binghamton and induction into Phi Beta Kappa.

Howard is a licensed Psychiatrist Assistant with a 40 year history of providing clinical, administrative, management and executive services in Outpatient, Emergency Department, 24 hour/day Call Center and Opioid Treatment Program settings. Howard has worked for Glass Health Programs/MedMark Treatment Centers since 1987, currently as the Director of Admissions and Community Outreach.

Howard was MATOD’s Secretary from July 2015 – June 2017, working with MATOD leadership and members on improved treatment access, Medicaid re-bundling, community education, payer and government relations, public policy and legislative action, stigma reduction and metrics related to successful patient outcomes.

Howard was elected to serve as President for the 2017 – 2019 term, and hopes to continue working with MATOD to reduce Opioid overdoses and the stigma associated with the disease of addiction and its treatments. Through collaboration with Medicaid, CMS, BHA/MDH, Beacon Health Options, Local Addiction/Behavioral Authorities, AATOD and Office-Based Opioid Treatment Providers, MATOD is a strong voice to enhance treatment access and quality, and improve provider reimbursement for expansion of services.
